don't worry too much about the subtitles not working in WMP. From what I've seen, most people don't use it for watching anime anyway. I think it's typically becasue of that annoying bar that stays there for several seconds covering up the subs if the mouse is even bumped a little bit. I personally use ZoomPlayer. But most people, as far as I know, use Media Player Classic or VLC. I like the fact that in ZoomPlayer I can hit spacebar which pops up the little slider bar, which click to go where I want to go, and then press space bar again and it goes away. nice and convenient and I only have to remember that space bar pops it up and puts it away. Unlike others which I'd have to remember which keys let me jump back a few seconds at a time, or which I'd have to exit full screen then fiddle, and then go back to full screen.

extract the .sub files to the location of the video files.
The only video player i can confirm the subtitles to work with is windows media player. I can confirm them not to work with mplayer and causing xine to segfault, though.
